Save Catalan Bay!

A couple of weeks ago when my mother-in-law was visiting we decided it would be nice to take her for afternoon tea. There are a few places that do afternoon tea here, but we decided on The Caleta Hotel. Sadly there aren’t any photos of the tea, sandwiches and cake, it got eaten too quickly to get my camera out, but I do recommend it!

The weather when we went wasn’t as bad as today, (the rain today, hasn’t it been endless?) but it was cloudy. The kind of cloud that makes for a good photograph. It is such a unique place to see. The sheer side of the Rock looming above you, and the contrast between summer and winter is just amazing. It gets cold around there, although we did spot a couple of brave people swimming!

Now I like Catalan Bay, it has an old school charm about it. I know there are plans to redevelop the Caleta Hotel, they are on display in the hotel foyer, but I have since learnt that there are more plans to build high-rise apartments, in the village itself, wedging them in where there is already limited space. I’ve already shared the petition on Twitter to try and stop this, but if you didn’t see it and sign it, do so here.

As you can see from these drawings the buildings don’t fit in. It looms above its neighbours, and sticks out like a sore thumb. Quite frankly someone needs to go back to the drawing board and come back with something less foul. If you agree, please sign and share that petition. Thanks! 🙂

  1. I got married at the Caleta Hotel and then had photos on Catalan Bay after so I really do love this part of Gibraltar. Thanks for sharing the petition – I’m singing it now! I hope it stays just as lovely as it is now ❤
